funny student errors

Wasn't sure which forum this should go in, but it is a kind of art, lol. Students do sometimes make very funny statements unintentionally--and I know I get a kick out of some of them. So I thought I'd share some that come up. Yesterday--was discovering that about 1/2 the class thought "Euthanasia"=young people in the Far East. So today I'm grading papers and find someone repeatedly discussing whether or not "gamboling" should be legal. Egads, methinks, gamboling legal? What next? Frolicking? Smile

It's that time of year...

When I'm grading a stack of papers :-)

One on 12th Night came in with a very funny mistaken way of referring to the character Viola--who in the play acts as Duke Orsino's messenger with love notes to the Lady Olivia.

So the student writes that though Viola (disguised as a boy) acted as Orsino's massager, Lady Olivia found herself falling for the massager.  Orsino also fell for the massager.

Mmmm...those magic fingers...

So, how did you correct the student? Hopefully you did not make them use the words euthansia and gamboling in the same sentence.Undecided

hmmm, yeah that would be a tough sentence to construct--It would have to start something like "His days of gamboling and frolicking being long past..." A pretty tragic sentence.

Lessee, in the first instance we were actually examining a political cartoon about the assisted suicide law in Oregon and I started using the term Euthanasia. I noticed that large numbers of them were looking at me quizzically. So I stopped and asked what was going on, and one of the students said, they didn't understand why I was suddenly talking about "Youth in Asia."

"Gamboling" I just corrected throughout the person's paper and kept my thoughts abut illegal gamboling to myself; well not entirely to myself Smile

Illegal gamboling...

LOL... so bad, jazzie... I don't care how innocent they say you are. Smile

innocent?

Innocent? *jaz looks around* Moi?

If this is because of my resemblance to Ninja--well can't deny it. But if it's my low score on the "seedy past" part of which Lost character are you...well, all those questions as I remember were about things you actually got caught doing...
