When Science doesn't make sense
Horizon problem and Holographic priniciple
Oh man... I love this stuff. I think I have an obsession with quantum everythings.
Well, I think that's one of the things the Aspect Experiment tried to explain was that there is a deeper level of reality we don't know about and cannot comprehend such as the connection between subatomic particles and faster than light traveling. But I don't quite know the science of how heat expands in the universe.
But the Aspect experiment suggests that the universe is holographic and thus interconnected. (The universe as one example - among other amazing proposals which reminds me of "What the Bleep..." and how it illustrates that our memories are encoded in patterns of nerve impulses that crisscross the entire brain in the same way that a so-called holographic brain would and thus result in a holographic image. Which was also described in the film when we "imagine" something, a holographic image appears. But that's another topic.
)
I looked up some stuff trying to connect the dots between Holography and Inflation but there were as many differences as similarities that I could find.
The inflation theory suggests that if correct, it solves the horizon problem by suggesting that "prior to the inflationary period the entire universe was causally connected, and it was during this period that the physical properties evened out. Inflation then expanded it rapidly, freezing in these properties all over the sky; at this point the universe would be forced to be almost perfectly homogeneous, as the information needed to change it from that state was no longer causally connected. In the modern era distant areas in the sky appear to be unconnected causally, but in fact were much closer together in the past."
Inflation is often called a period of "accelerated expansion" because the distance between two fixed observers is increasing at an accelerating rate as they move apart. Similarily, the holographic priniciple fails to describe a closed universe. Thus if we rely on the holographic description for a closed universe and the 2nd law of thermodynamics, we set a bound on the equation of state and we find that an inflationary universe naturally emerges.
I am in no way fully understanding all of this but I think the holographic principle and quantum cosmology could/can provide some insight on the initial conditions of the universe and perhaps the science behind heat expansion. Hell, the inflation theory made just as much or less sense so what do I know.
Messages From Water
I can't help but think of this little exploration as brought up in the "What the Bleep" film:
Masaru Emoto was born in Yokohama in July 1943. He is a graduate of the Yokohama Municipal University's department of humanities and sciences with a focus on International Relations. In 1986 he established the IHM Corporation in Tokyo. In October of 1992 he received certification from the Open International University as a Doctor of Alternative Medicine. Subsequently he was introduced to the concept of micro cluster water in the US and Magnetic Resonance Analysis technology. The quest thus began to discover the mystery of water.
He undertook extensive research of water around the planet not so much as a scientific researcher but more from the perspective of an original thinker. At length he realized that it was in the frozen crystal form that water showed us its true nature through. He has gained worldwide acclaim through his groundbreaking research and discovery that water is deeply connected to our individual and collective consciousness.
He calls the phenomenon he investigated "hado" -
Hado: The intrinsic vibrational pattern at the atomic level in all matter. The smallest unit of energy. Its basis is the energy of human consciousness.
Conversational pieces such as this now abound in Japan and it is largely due to his revolutionary photographs of water crystals under high magnification. Frozen crystals of water? Yes, like this..

"Arigatou" -Thank you in Japanese
This is not just any crystallised molecule of water however. What has put Dr. Emoto at the forefront of the Hado phenomenon is his proof that thoughts and feelings affect PHYSICAL reality. By producing different Hado through written and spoken words, as well as music and literally presenting it to the SAME water samples, the water appears to "change its expression". The exquisite beauty of the above crystal of frozen tap water is clearly the result of Hado being projected at it. The expression of human gratitude (arigatou) is thus immediately reflected in water.
This is all quoted directly from his website

Crytstal Clear - Messages from Water
This is directly related but is also a very interesting site - and describes exactly the same things brought up in the film such as Hado or Chi (Chi of Love) water crystal.
Research Paper on Dr. Emoto's Work
This research paper looks at some of the science behind Dr. Emoto's claims. It concludes that he has not proven his case, but adds that it has also not been disproven. The author summarizes what would be necessary to make a good case. One point he made which I admit did make me question Emoto's claims as well is that he is selling a product tied to his results on the website.
Dr. Emoto's Work
I only was able to skim and take in your summary. I have had the opportunity to read Dr. Emoto's first book - and I would say that this is a fair and accurate review of his work (as far as I've perused).
There are several disappointing things about the way he's presented himself, but that does not leave me any less fascinated by the "has not been disproven" aspect of it all.
Homeopathy and placebo
I know that the above is really not a scientific treatment of the observation, but I can't help but think how neatly it fits.
Because it seems that the common denominator in the placebo and the homeopathy effect is this undefined "memory" or "thought energy". It's largely undefined because no one is certain if this comes from the patient or from the "medicine".
These water experiments with words are obviously along the homeopathy camp and support the evidence that this "memory" in water can be changed. I wonder how much of the placebo effect has to do with the water content in the human body - or does other physical matter exhibit these traits in different ways? I wish this stuff was taken seriously enough to investigate this all a little more rigorously.
Homeopathy and placebo
Thirst for more...
Yeah, the water crystals was an amazing part of the film. I didn't really understand the concept behind it when I watched it so I looked it up and I found various websites mentioning what this concept could eventually lead to IF taken seriously. (because I found numerous sites that also suggests that it's hogwash.)
Assuming everything in this world possesses common vibration frequency, resonance wave (hado) that is able to transfer human emotions onto all surrounding objects - 'tis why one has to thank food that he/she eats, avoid negative emotions and pray more often, etc.
A computer that would be operated by thoughts - Some are looking for ways to transform processes that occur in water under the influence of electromagnetic radiation of the human brain into signals that are comprehensible for computer.
There are also those who try to find out if it is possible to change physical and chemical properties of water for special purposes. (proposing less energy consumption)

When Science...
Wow! That was so cool!
I wonder if there might be a relation between the placebo effect and the homeopathy one--if somehow in homeopathy, no matter how dilute the solution, it's like you have a "memory" of the original showing up in the water, and it seemed like something similar might be happening with the saline in the placebo effects?
The horizon one (#2)--about the uniformity of heat radiation--the article talks about the problem that the speed of light should be a limitation on heat evening out across that distance. In the Aspect experiment that's also true isn't it, that the speed of light should be a limitation of the two particles having an effect on each other but it isn't? I wonder if it's the same or a related phenomena?
