It's back with a vengence!!
Oh yeah baby!! Lost was back with a vengence last night!! I really enjoyed it - although it wasn't the best episode, it was just great to be able to watch it and get back into the freakiness of that damned island!! And so it seems that the island can reach into the "real" world as well, hmm isn't THAT special!! All in all a solid effort last night. Here are a couple of screen caps I found at another site. The first is the image Hurley saw when looking in the window of Jacob's cabin. I thought he saw Jacob... but on closer look, it's not Jacob but rather an old friend...

This is the cap of what Hurley saw in the interrogation room. I completely missed it when it aired but thankfully someone was able to grab it. Check it out......

So what did you guys think?
Google ain't right!!
Beginning of the End
Yeah Juke, I loved the episode. Lost didn't dissapointment me one bit last night, especially considering the high standards I, we, have for the show. I LOVED that it was Hurley-centric. Didn't see that coming! Poor Hurley... that huge hugable bear turns a dark, narrow path after he learns of Charlie's death... which was a tear jerker! Ugh, it was ALL there.
When I realized it was Christian sitting in the chair in the cabin I almost choked!! I guess most would say it's obvious that Christian is Jacob but I'm not going to force that conclusion yet. Who else was in there with him??? Locke?
The cabin following Hurley around... lol... poor thing... that was awesome.
Exceptional episode.
Weeeeeeeee
Hello everybody! OMG am so excited that Lost is back. Really enjoyed it and have even had my first S4 theory!
I SO didn't get that it was Christian so I think I'm going to have to download the ep and watch it again today. Oh and check out the marvellous screengrabs. Well done for getting those!
Ooooh its good to be back.

Whoa...!
Wow...thanks for the screencaps Jukin. I totally missed that first one. Even though it's an "old friend" do you think it could also be that it is Jacob?
I'm gonna cheat a bit and c&p what I just e-mailed to kat--'cause gotta run to class--but I thought it was a great episode. The fact that Hurley sees Charlie (which I took to be something the island was doing)--I thought that was incredibly intense--the effects of the island are extending way beyond the island. It made me wonder if in Through the Looking Glass--whether when Jack talks about his father as if he's still alive--I wonder if he's seeing him? I loved that it was a Hurley focussed episode--and I guess the one thing I picked up on a first viewing that I might bring into a post is how Hurley has such a connection to vehicles and wrecking them. (Maybe planes too?)
Whoa
Hurley sees Charlie - what gets me is that someone told Hurley that there was a man waiting for him... or something - and it turned out to be Charlie. How... did that man see him?? Who was that man?? Or... was that man just an addition to Hurley's... um... visions/hallucinations- (island induced?) I'll go with option #3 for my sanity.
Hmm... you're right, that does make Jack seeing his father in the FF more plausible now... hmmm...
Hurley's visions
Kat I was thinking that the guy who told Hurley someone was watching him was also part of the hallucination or he may have been the instigator of it. What I mean is that he may have been tripping out himself but his comment actually caused Hurley to imagine the encounter with Charlie. The easier solution though is that he was also part of the hallucination.
One thing I was thinking about this morning is that Locke healed damned fast! It has to be a simple production error (or something that was intentionally left out to simplify the story progression) but wasn't Locke just shot in the stomach the same day (or maybe the day before) all of these events? In TTLG he appeared to struggle to throw the knife at Naomi but last night he was running around without any apparent problems. If Jack had tackled him with that bullet injury Locke would be dead - so maybe it was simply a way to progress the story. There was no mention of the conflict between Locke and Ben at all. If Ben had just shot Locke and left him in that pit to die, I'm not sure he would have been so quick to ask to go with him instead of Jack. Ben has to think that Locke is going to kill him for shooting him. Something there isn't right......
Hurley's Visions
Ben improvises
Yeah, actually I thought Ben was pretty funny, heh... anyway, why has Ben ever trusted any of the Losties with his life? Jack could've killed him in TTLG after pretending to kill his friends but Ben went through with it anyway. How did he know Jack wouldn't kill him then? My guess is that he simply doesn't know. And probably doesn't know if Locke will kill him... but... my bet is that he believes he's better off with Locke et al than with Jack if he's going to meet up with the "rescuers". That's my only answer to that. But I think it's still quite plausible Ben has a plan despite his position right now.
Locke did heal fast... but the boy IS special and the island has healing properties. If I remember right, Naomi healed within two days after she parachuted onto the island, right?
What I want to know is what happened to Jack that made him want to go back? Hurley already wanted to.
Yeah that's the big question right now.
I guess we'll find out as the season goes on. I know the producers said that a lot of the episodes this season will include "off" island stories that aren't flashbacks. I assume that's the meaning behind the cityscape in the Lost ads.
I realized that Hurley seeing Jack's father has a bigger implication in it. As of now we know that Christian has had direct contact now with Jack, Claire, Anna Lucia, Sawyer, and Hurley and presumably Locke if he was in deed the 'eye' in the window. He is quickly becoming a common thread between these characters so it may well be the writers pointing us in a path we forgot about.
As a side note I found it very amusing that the area where Charlie and Hurley have their conversation at the mental institute is actually a courtyard where tourists often gather in Lahaina Hawaii. My wife and I had our picture taken under that same tree during our honeymoon so I remember that tree very well!! I guess that makes me nuts!!
Locke/Jack Confrontation
Something else about that scene that seemed off to me was the fact that it was Locke who was telling Jack that they couldn't trust the freighter--I was thinking why isn't Desmond telling Jack what happened. Also, why did Desmond stay with Jack's group? That seemed strange given what he knows.
Kate going after Naomi with the stolen phone--more grist for the double agent mill. And then Naomi climbing into a tree? More incredible healing power?
Why did Kate take the phone?
Hi Jaz,
Excellent point about Desmond. I too was expecting Desmond to speak directly to Jack about what happened to Charlie. I don't recall Jack even asking about Charlie or anything that happened at the Looking Glass?!!
And why did Kate take that phone? And is Naomi really dead?
Noob here
Hi, it's WTF
hope its ok to jump right in with my opinion.
I thought the episode was brilliant. It set the scene for upcoming events and Hurley was really tugging on my heartstrings.
I loved the Hurley/Charley scene. There was something so cute about it.
It stood out to me that Hurley said to Jack 'IT wants us to come back' .Talking about the island as an entity? Did I hear right?
I like it here
OMG actual smileys . God help us all
Weeeeeeeeee
What an episode! OMG it was exciting!
WTF I think you're right, Hurley did say 'it' wants us back. I think it will turn out to be Hurley who convinces Jack they have to go back and then Jack will convinced Kate and so on. Only when all of the mysterious six are in agreement will they get back!
Can't wait for next week.
Weeeeeeeee
Ooo mrsmrsmrsmrs...
I hope it's actually that easy! I was a little worried at first because Jack's FF is clearly later in the timeline than the one we saw with Hurley... just the fact that it's more probable he was calling Kate after he heard mystery man died, and not Hurley. And you'd think he'd at least get in touch with him before ending his life to tell him, "Yo, dude, I agree, WE NEED TO GET BACK!!!"
What happens to Hurley??
Weeeeeeeee
The Boss always shows up in the wierdest place!!
I rewatched the episode last night and noticed a few things. JP is right about the letters "H" & "O" appearing throughout the episode. Although you can't see it on the tape Hurley tells Charlie "I'm trying to buy some jerky and a slushie and suddenly you're standing next to the Ho-Hos." That's one reference to the H-O (or does that count as two?
)
When Hurley is being reassured by the medical staff following his encounter with Lost's Haitian (sorry that was for Kat. I mean the supposed lawyer for Oceanic), there is a plastic model of something in the background with the letters H and O visible. And lastly as Jazzie pointed out, during the game of horse they only got as far as H-O.
Someone over at L-T said that the guy who told Hurley that someone was watching him had to be a real person because the nurse gave him medication when she told Hurley about his visitor. I looked at both scenes closely and it's NOT the same guy. In fact he seems to disappear immediately after making the comment -- I looked for him in the background in the subsequent shots and he's nowhere to be seen. This makes me think that he was part of the hallucination. As for him slapping Hurley I don't think that means anything. Hurley interacted with Dave a few times in the institution and then on the island Dave threw a coconut at him. The inference (particularly with the picture of Hurley and Dave) is that Hurley can interact with his hallucinations even though they aren't real. So Charlie really wasn't there. I think the Producers missed a chance to really screw with us. Had they made Charlie wear a visitors tag as Jack and the lawyer had on, it would have given some indication that Charlie was real - or at least may have been real. As it is there's nothing to suggest that he was anything more than another hallucination.
I also saw a comment that Hurley and Locke's old boss Randy was seen videotaping Hurley's arrest. I looked at that scene 6 times and couldn't see him (although I did see someone holding a camcorder it wasn't possible to see their face.) At the end of the show Billy Ray Gallion is credited as Randy Nations. I checked IMDB.com and sure enough I wasn't seeing things - he was actually in the episode. So why would Hurley's old boss be there to film him being arrested? What is it about this guy that he continues to appear in flashback/flash forwards? If he was there wouldn't he have said something to Hurley or wouldn't you expect Hurley to recognize him? I realize that Hurley had a lot going on with the cops at that moment, but if Randy was sent there to record it why wouldn't they take some precautions against be recognized? If he wasn't sent by someone how did he just happen to be at that exact spot and that specific time when a former employee (and a famous one at that!) was arrested? Sorry it just seems like a very strange coincidence - even for Lost!!
It makes me wonder what they're trying to tell us about this guy. He uses the same name as the boss for both Hurley and Locke. He's a manager for a fast food restaurant and a business executive at the same time? Now he shows up on a dock filming the arrest of a former employee? There's something really weird about all of this..... (Jukin scratches his head and walks away......)
Re: The Boss always shows up in the wierdest place!!
Heh, at first I thought you meant Springsteen!
According to Lostpedia--Nations is not the manager and the exec at the same time--he gets the job at the box company after the meteor hits the restaurant. I don't think it's coincidence...the info the Others have on folks has to be coming from somewhere.
Did you see kat's post about Holmium (HO) on LT?
Charlie...I just think there's got to be something to the way he's dressed other than the symbolism of the shades. And the other difference between the two times we see him. When Charlie was talking to Hurley--at one point I think the camera is behind them and we see a woman sitting in front of them with her back to them. When Charlie was gone and the camera pulls back from Hurley--that woman isn't there anymore either.
Da Boss!
Jazz I did mean Springsteen. They just announced that he's going to do a benefit concert on the Island. Kate and Juliet will be adding background vocals and Jack and Sawyer will be playing lead guitar and bass with him and Ben will be playing keyboards. I am supposed to fill in on drums but I thought you might like to sit in with him since I play with Springsteen every time he comes back to Jersey. Let me know if you want in and what kind of drums you prefer. (I have a Yamaha Studio set you can use -- just don't get sand in it!!) The concert is being billed as "The Charlie Pace Memorial Concert." Don't tell anyone but my inside source tells me that Bruce will be covering a number of Drive Shaft songs. Shhhh!
I totally missed Kats Holmium thread. I'm reading it now. This is why I love you guys!!! (Sorry the Philly boy in me meant to say 'youse guys'!)
Charlie was here
"Lost Haitan"... yeah I enjoyed that a little too much I think.
Because semantics makes my head hurt in the mornings... I'm just summing Charlie's presence up to a Campbellistic approach. "Guardian threshold" - that's what he is to me whether he's real, really there, or just in his head.
I doubt we'll find out either way unless the writers reveal the truth. And if that's the case I might as well come up with my own conclusion since I'm not a podcast listener.
Whew, that was easy!
Re: Charlie was here
Well my head must be in a weird place...
"Cause when you said "Charlie's presence" and a "Campbellistic appoach"--I immediately pictured Charlie as one of those little blonde chef kids on the Campbell's soup cans!
It's probably because I'm staring at the words "Randy Nations" and trying to make it mean something other than an explanation of the world's population explosion...
I got the anagram "DNA's Anti-irony"--Naaaaahhhh!
I love the smell of semantics in the morning!
Anti-irony...
My head must be in an even weirder place... I was thinking "cannibalistic" when typing campbellistic. Heh.
Ahem.
But don't discount Chaaaahlie's face on the side of a Campbell soup can... (oh man, I'd brick if that happened, lol!) 'cause, you know, Walt's face was on the side of a milk carton once.
Ooo... anagram.. Can't "Nadia" be taken out of "Randy Nations"?
Wait! I am my own problem. I always do this stuff in the mornings!
