Charisma

Science
An article in the paper today looks into what qualities define "charisma" and whether they can be taught. The central idea is that charisma is a holding together of contradictory qualities at the same time--strength AND vulnerability; glorification AND approachability. This reminded me of things I've read about "third-gendered" peoples in Native American tribes who were believed to have both male and female qualities and as a result were often thought to be in closer communion to the spiritual/mystical realms. (Here's a wiki summary on the idea of "two-spirit" peoples.)

Compliments

I'm forced to query more about the nature of the person who would make such comments to you more than about you yourself.
The only one of those I'll buy is that you do stupid things, because I've never even heard of a person that didn't do stupid things.

Very interesting...
I've often been said to possess contradictory qualities. I get comments like, "For a person who talks so much you sure don't have anything interesting to say." Or, "For a person who's supposed to be smart you sure do stupid things." Oh, and this one: "For a person who wants to connect deeply with regular people you sure are a first-class freak."
I guess I should have taken all of those as compliments!
