Soy vs. Fish Oil

This article talks about how changing from a soy based source of fat to fish oil in IV nutrition has saved a number of children from dying of liver failure.  It had been assumed that prolonged IV nutrition damages the liver but changing the source of fat turns out to prevent that damage.

Soy oil vs. Fish Oil

I talk a little bit about how soy affects your liver here:
The great soy debate

Even if you aren't a vegetarian it's likely you're getting more soy than you bargained for without even trying.  If you read labels you'll notice it's in about just as many things as high fructose corn syrup.

It does make me wonder if when using soy as a medicine like that, if there is another counterbalance to the load it presents to your detoxification cycle.

While it's the soy itself that causes the toxic overload through phytoestrogens; I think that the source of fish oil is equally important to consider in how pollution will potentially affect the fish oil used and possibly create the same sort of problem.
