Is Mathematics the language of the universe?

This interview with mathematician Mario Livio described both the ways in which mathematics is not objective but human-centric, but also how alternate forms of math which weren't devised for any real life application strangely wind up having that application many years after they've been formulated.  I especially liked his illustration using the kind of math jellyfish might have come up with.
